Urban Legends examines popular myths from a Biblical perspective.
There are stuff in the Bible that are better experienced as vision. Take the vision of a then 30-year old Prophet Ezekiel. He saw a UFO, a biomorphic spacecraft from another dimension. The energy output was humongous: “I saw a great storm coming from the north, driving before it a huge cloud that flashed with lightning and shone with brilliant light. There was fire inside the cloud, and in the middle of the fire glowed something like gleaming amber.” (Ezekiel 1:4 NLT) The spacecraft had four pilots. They’re better described as “creatures” – “Four living beings that looked human, except that each had four faces and four wings…Each had a human face in front, the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and the face of an eagle at the back.” They might have been the inspiration for Marvel’s Human Torch – “The living beings looked like bright coals of fire or brilliant torches, and lightning seemed to flash back and forth among them. And the living beings darted to and fro like flashes of lightning.” (Ezekiel 1:13) The spacecraft was gyroscopic: “As I watched the four-faced creatures, I saw something that looked like a wheel on the ground beside each of the four-faced creatures. This is what the wheel looked like: They were identical wheels, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. It looked like they were wheels within wheels, like a gyroscope.” (Ezekiel 1:15-16 MSG) The beings controlled the gyroscopic technology of the spacecraft with a mind interface. And then it gets even more bizarre: “The rims (of the wheels) were immense, circled with eyes.” (Ezekiel 1:18 MSG)
When you read scriptures you’ll find the merger of biology and technology very common. We’ve been trying to merge man and machine for years now without much success. Compared to what’s in scriptures our attempts are like secondary school science fair experiments. Ridiculously rudimentary! Clearly as far back as 622BC, this technological breakthrough already existed in another civilization. Ezekiel witnessed it. Based on what we read in the Bible about this other dimension (the spirit realm), ours is a very backward civilization. What we call aliens are actually beings from that dimension. Though in fairness they have a right to call us aliens too!
The Bible makes it clear there are beings around us we can’t see. The reason we can’t see them is because we occupy a lower dimension, whereas they occupy a higher dimension. The reality of existence is that both dimensions are intertwined. We know from the Bible for example that there are angels all around us. But we can’t see them without enablement. We have a dimensional limitation. Our body technology is not advanced enough to apprehend higher dimensional realities. In 2 Kings 6:17, Elisha had to pray for the eyes of his associate to be opened so he could see the reality surrounding their reality. He was shocked to see the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire round about himself and Elisha. They were there but he could not see them. Our body is technologically limited.
As conceived by God the human body is an interactive technology. We interact with the material world through our bodies. But there are other types of body. And there are grades of body technology. Resurrection body is a much higher grade of body technology. It can pass through walls. Ours can’t. Perhaps what a resurrection body does is demolecurize, particulate and auto-reassemble after passing through an object. It’s intelligent technology with discriminatory capacity, which is why it doesn’t fall through a chair. Jesus sat down on a chair after passing through a wall after his resurrection. (John 20:19) Or may be a resurrection body converts into an energy form in order to flow through solids then reconverts to matter thereafter. Who knows!
Bodies are actually space suits, ours inclusive. We are spirits. We wear a body. (1 Thessalonians 5:23) We ARE in space. An alien on Mars will consider a journey to our planet a journey into space. To appreciate the human body technologically, think of it as a combo of two cameras (eyes), two audio receivers (ears), one chemical analyzer (nose), a miniaturized mainframe computing device (brain), an energy conversion system (entrails), a space propulsion system (legs), a limbic acquisitive system (hands), a waste processing system (guts). But it’s inferior technology compared to those of other creatures around us, creatures we interact with without our awareness. The fact that we can’t see them but they can see us already tells us our body technology is inferior to theirs. Our technology is so inferior that we can only do limited space exploration. Our bodies can’t cope a few thousand feet above sea level. We’ll die. We can’t for example climb into the stratosphere without an oxygen tank. And yet there’s no description of angels carrying oxygen tanks in the Bible. Their body technology is so advanced they can even do inter-dimensional travel. We can only access the other dimension through visions and dreams, which are some sort of interactive portal. And angels travel at incredible speed. It’s why they’re described as “flame of fire.” (Hebrews 1:7) Even with cutting edge energy systems our spacecrafts can’t match the travel speed of angels.
Our low-tech bodies can’t move near God’s vicinity. It can’t absorb the radiation from God’s glory. It’s why we need an upgrade – a “heavenly body.” (1 Corinthians 15:40) You can’t stand in the presence of God without a radiation absorbent body. You’ll fry from an unimaginable distance. The Bible says God’s glory is brighter than the sun. (Revelation 21:23) Yet there are beings who stand in the presence of God. The Twenty and Four Elders do. (Revelation 4:4) The Four Living Creatures do. (Revelation 4:6) There are also angels who stand in the presence of God. The Seven Angels for instance. (Revelation 8:2). And Jesus told us the angels of infants stand in the presence of God too. (Matthew 18:10)
Apostle John saw aliens too, via vision portal. Some imagine his visions allegorical. But that’s because the whole thing sounds so bizarre. The thing about those visions is that the creatures are real yet emblematic. There’s a time lapse involved yet the visions are interactive in real time, which should make us wonder exactly what “reality,” past, present and future is. These creatures have histories attached, and those histories will play out millennia down the line in our dimension though John was able to interact with the creatures in earth’s real time. How does that make sense?! John saw the beast with seven heads, ten horns and ten royal crowns. (The seven heads were inscribed with blasphemous titles). The beast resembled a leopard, but its feet were bear-like, the mouth like that of a lion. (Revelation 13:1-2) Then there are those locusts he wrote about, the ones that looked like horses. (Revelation 9:7-11) Only they had human faces, women’s hair, teeth of lions and iron breastplates like medieval knights. And they had scorpion tails. Their general overseer is Apollyon the Destroyer. In talking about aliens, we should also consider those fallen angels who crossbred themselves with humans to pollute the human genetic code. Moses wrote about those. They gave birth to giants called Nephils. (Genesis 6:1-4) Genetically these were half-human, half angel – a very dangerous mutation. (The Nephils were reputedly violent and unstable).
From the foregoing we can conclude aliens have visited the earth and they’re all around us. That there’s a higher dimension populated by aliens which interacts with our dimension.
Are there alien abductions? There’s the story of Enoch’s disappearance, but he wasn’t abducted by aliens. God took him. “They looked all over and couldn’t find him because God had taken him.” (Hebrews 11:5) We don’t have stories of alien abduction in scriptures. But we do have stories of guys like Elijah travelling to Heaven on a retro-adaptive space shuttle (chariot of fire) in energy cyclones – “whirlwind.” (2 Kings 2:1-11)
Is there life on other planets? Well, so far NASA hasn’t found any. And the SETI array of radio telescopes hasn’t picked up any signals. But we do know Satan’s HQ is somewhere “up there.” He’s the prince of the power of the air. (Ephesians 2:2) So we know there’s life out there somewhere. There are aliens out there. We know he has associates “up there” – “For we’re not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12 NLT).
The mayor of Ephesus spoke about a meteorite that fell in Ephesus. (Acts 19:35) No, it wasn’t alien invasion, just your regular cosmological happenstance. Meteorites fall all the time. But the people of Ephesus claimed it was the image of Artemis. Artemis was the goddess of virginity and fertility, among other portfolios. Which was why her imagery was multiple breasts from the waist up. Bottom line, the Ephesians had their own alien projectile story. And what a story!
