We continue the series, The Church and Politics. Last week, we looked at the imperatives of our earthly citizenship as Christians. To read past episodes of The Church and Politics go to www.myilluminare.com/the-church-and-politics/
Reality is in two dimensions. There is the physical and there is the spiritual. Because the spiritual realm is a higher dimension we cannot see the beings in that dimension. Principle of physics. Physics tells us beings in a lower dimension cannot apprehend beings in a higher dimension. But the beings in the higher dimension can see the beings in a lower dimension. It’s why we can’t ordinarily see demons or angels or God. We have dimensional limitation. But they’re real.
If we could peer into the spiritual dimension, we will discover it is organised politically. It has a government. God runs a government. That’s his day job. God’s form of government is monarchy. It’s why we worship him and say those grandiose things about him in church. It’s why we genuflect before him. These things are consistent with monarchy. The heir apparent to God we’re told is Jesus. (Hebrews 1:2) Jesus has a political title called “Son.” It just means he’s heir apparent; doesn’t mean he’s a product of biological procreation. (Hebrews 1:2) He is called “The Christ” because he’s the anointed king. “Christ” simply means anointed. Jesus was declared to be the “Son of God-in-power”. (Romans 1:4 NET) It was a political proclamation. He pretty much runs everything. He’s in charge of Heaven’s colonies – galaxies, universes, the earth… This is how the Bible captured that fact: “God raised him (Jesus) from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule and not just for the time being, but forever. He (Jesus) is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything”. (Ephesians 1:20-23 MSG) In other words, the whole of terrestrial and cosmological geography, all the domains and governments are under Jesus’ authority. (Ephesians 1:20-23 MSG)
But there’s a rebel federation out there – a parallel government we shall call the Axis of Evil because it resonates with modern understanding. It is headed by a failed revolutionary, Satan. Satan fomented a revolution in Heaven and was exiled. He located his HQ “in the air” – we don’t have the exact location because we don’t have a map of the spiritual realm. But he’s called “prince of the power of the air” or “ruler of the kingdom of the air”. (Ephesians 2:2 KJV, NET) Because he’s very much focused on control of mankind, Satan is called “god of this world” or “god of the age”. (2 Corinthians 4:4) It means he controls culture and secular humanism.
Satan generates the political map of the world and creates supervisory administrative structure over it. From the Bible we know he has lieutenants in charge of each nation. (Daniel 10:13) In the period the earth was administratively dimensioned into kingdoms, Satan had political controllers for each kingdom. His henchmen were assigned to kingdoms. (Daniel 10:13) And so upwards 6th century BC, there was a political operative called “Prince of Persia”. (Daniel 10:13) Persia was his domain and he controlled the air space over it. When an angel emissary was sent down to sort out Daniel’s understanding on some deep stuff, this bloke, the Prince of Persia gave him a tough time. Didn’t allow air transit for 2 weeks. The angel had to call for reinforcement. (Daniel 10:13) And so we see Satan trying to disintermediate Jesus’ control of earth’s nations and kingdoms.
Satan is very much enmeshed in the political goings-on in the nations of the world. If you cede political control to Satan and abdicate responsibility over your nation, he will foment anarchy and war. Think Somalia. Think Liberia. Think Sierra Leone. He steals, he kills, he destroys. (John 10:10) Satan is busy generating tensions all over the earth: think Afghanistan, think civil war in Syria, tensions in East China Sea, North Korea crisis, war against ISIS in Iraq, civil war in Libya, sectarian conflict in Lebanon, conflict in Ukraine, Kurdish conflict, Israeli-Palestinian conflict… The list goes on and on. In the Thursday August 14, 2014 edition of the Independent, UK, the newspaper reported there were only eleven countries in the world free from conflict!
For us to appreciate what went down over Persia as per the emissary sent to Daniel, and what is going on in the world today, we need to understand Satan’s political organogram. There are four tiers on Satan’s political organogram – Principalities, Powers, Rulers of Darkness, Spiritual Wickednesses. (Ephesians 6:12 KJV) When it comes to politics however, the Principalities and Powers are the lynchpins, with intelligence supplied by Rulers of Darkness.
The Principalities are first in hierarchy. The word translated “Principality” is the Greek word “Arche”. The verb is “Archo”. It means “first”. So they’re first in line of authority. Principalities are thus direct reports. Principalities have overall control of nations. These are Satan’s princes. But in terms of primary executive outcomes in nations, it’s the Powers that are responsible. The word translated “Power” in Ephesians 6:12 is the Greek word, “Exousia”. The word is linked in meaning to governments. Thus, we see Satan exerting influence over nations of the earth through control of individuals in government.
If Satan is using individuals in government, it is the duty of Christians to resist and push back by participating in the political process. It is God’s will that is supposed to be done on earth not Satan’s will. (Matthew 6:10) Christians who refuse to take part in the political affairs of their nation lose moral authority to complain about governance. And knowing the Axis of Evil is vying for direct control of your nation, you’re duty-bound to counter Satan’s exertions as a Christian. You must participate in the political process. Christianity is a political reality, not a religious feel-good supplicative experience. Though you have to wonder who convinced Christians not to participate in politics! Unknown to such Christians, they’re victims of counter-intelligence. The Rulers of Darkness are in charge of counter-intelligence in Satan’s system. (Ephesians 6:12) Ignorance and error are deeply associated with the Rulers of Darkness. (Ephesians 6:12) It’s how they mislead Christians with religiosity. And they silence opposition to terrible governments. Suppression is their work.
Satan’s government infrastructure is as real as the government you voted into power through direct participation, or through abdication of responsibility. (Ephesians 6:12)
We continue the series next week. We’ll look at how God allocates power. It’s not based on goodness. To read the full version of The Church and Politics Part 4: Axis of Evil, please go to www.myilluminare.com/the-church-and-politics/
If you’ll like to receive Jesus into your life please pray this prayer: “Father I acknowledge that I am a sinner, that Jesus died for me, that you raised him from the dead. Father please forgive me. I accept Jesus today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen.”
